Student Data Privacy at Bee Visual

This page answers the questions schools and districts ask most when reviewing Choiceworks and Choiceworks Calendar.

What data does Bee Visual collect? From the apps themselves, none. Our apps have no Bee Visual accounts or logins, no ads, and no advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking tools. Bee Visual operates no app-content servers and never receives any content a student or teacher creates. If a parent, teacher, or school contacts us for support, we receive only what they choose to send us.

Where is student data stored? On the device. If iCloud sync is used, data is also stored in the customer's or school's own iCloud private database, operated by Apple under the Apple ID signed in on the device. On Android and Chromebook, data is stored on the device; the device's own Google backup may include it in the customer's personal or managed Google account, never Bee Visual's. It never passes through Bee Visual, and we cannot access it.

Who can access student data? Only the owner or administrator of the device and the Apple ID or Google account signed in on it. No Bee Visual employee can see, retrieve, or restore any user's content.

How long is data retained? App content stays on the device, and in the customer's Apple or Google account if backup or sync is used, until the user or account administrator deletes it. The only information Bee Visual holds is support correspondence, which we retain for up to 12 months after an issue is resolved unless we need to keep it longer for legal, security, or business-record reasons.

How is data deleted? Users delete content inside the app. Synced data can be fully removed from iCloud in device Settings under iCloud Manage Account Storage. Android backup data is managed in the Google account or device backup settings. Bee Visual holds no copy of app content to delete.

Breach notification. See the Security Incidents section of our privacy policies. If the support correspondence we hold is ever compromised, we will notify affected individuals and any affected school or district without unreasonable delay and no later than 30 days after we learn of the incident, or sooner where state law requires.

Third-party services. Bee Visual does not use subprocessors to process student-created app content because Bee Visual never receives that content. Depending on the device, purchase path, and settings a customer chooses, relevant third-party services may include Apple (iCloud/CloudKit sync, App Store, Apple School Manager), Google (Google Play, managed Google Play, and the device's own Android Auto Backup), Squarespace (website hosting), and Google Workspace (support email).

COPPA. Our apps collect no personal information from children. There are no child accounts and no advertising.

FERPA. Bee Visual never receives education records, so there are no Bee Visual-held records to protect, produce, or destroy.
